The short answer

Do you work in Excelsior Springs?

Excelsior Springs is close to home for us and has a housing stock that runs older than the newer subdivisions west of here. Older houses mean more deck replacements than new builds, and more work where the first job is assessing what's already there rather than starting from bare ground.

  • Most asked forDeck replacement, and repairs to structures built decades ago
  • Also commonExterior repainting on older siding and trim
  • Worth knowingOlder builds often hide footings that were never set deep enough

Even small home improvement decisions compound over time — choose the wrong contractor and you're repairing their work within a few seasons.

Excelsior Springs homeowners who want results that hold up choose a team with real credentials: licensed and insured, veteran-owned, with over 15 years of experience on residential projects across the greater Kansas City area. At Veteran's Custom Home Solutions, every job is handled by people who take workmanship personally.

We serve Excelsior Springs with the full range of outdoor and interior improvement services, including custom deck installation, fence and handrail work in wood, metal, aluminum and plastic, exterior painting with Sherwin-Williams products, and basement finishing built to code. Your project gets the same attention whether you're adding a backyard deck or transforming an unfinished lower level into functional living space.

Built to handle Missouri weather and last for years

Excelsior Springs sits in a region where seasonal weather variation puts consistent stress on outdoor structures. Winter freeze-thaw cycles crack paint, shift fence posts and work deck boards loose, and humid Missouri summers speed up the damage once it starts.

The right materials installed correctly by an experienced crew are what separate a project that lasts a decade from one that needs attention in two.

Our deck builds use materials and fastening systems designed for long-term performance in this climate. Exterior painting projects are prepped and applied to manufacturer standards using Sherwin-Williams products proven in Missouri conditions. And fence installations are set with post depth and spacing appropriate for the ground conditions common in this part of the state.

What Excelsior Springs properties tend to need

Working on an older property, the first real question is what's underneath. Decks built decades ago were frequently built to a standard that has since moved on — footings set too shallow, ledger connections that were adequate then and aren't now, railings that don't meet current spacing rules. None of that shows from the top of the deck, and all of it decides whether you're looking at a repair or a replacement.

So we assess before quoting rather than after. Sometimes the frame is genuinely sound and the honest answer is new boards and a new rail on the structure you already own. Sometimes it isn't, and we'd rather say so at the estimate than find it on day two. Older siding and trim tell a similar story with exterior painting: what the surface needs before it can hold a coating is most of the job.

Common questions from Excelsior Springs homeowners

Before committing to any project, you deserve clear answers. Here's what homeowners in Excelsior Springs typically ask us before we begin.

How does an estimate work?

All estimates are free — we assess your project in person or over the phone and give you a straight number.

Why does post depth matter so much here?

Missouri's freeze-thaw winters are a key reason proper fence post depth and deck fastening systems matter so much in Excelsior Springs.

Are you licensed and insured?

We're licensed, insured, and compliant with local building code requirements for all project types.

How big can a basement project be?

Basement finishing projects are designed around your goals — from simple utility improvements to full custom buildouts.

Do you offer discounts?

Our veteran-owned background means military discounts, first responder discounts, and teacher discounts are built into how we do business.

Do you pull the permit for work in Excelsior Springs?

We do, and we meet the inspector, as part of the job. Requirements for footing depth, railing height and structural connections are set by your city and county and they aren't uniform across the metro — which is exactly why it isn't a task worth handing to a homeowner.

How soon can you get out to Excelsior Springs?

Call and we'll give you a straight answer for the week you're asking about rather than a stock one. A short drive east of Kearney, so getting out to look is not the constraint — the build schedule is, and it's tightest in spring and early summer.

If you want outdoor work finished in time to use it this year, the call is worth making earlier than feels necessary.

Your home in Excelsior Springs deserves work that's done with care and backed by real experience.

  • The VCHS crew did a great job replacing our deck. Adam and the team went above and beyond to build exactly what we described. Communication was excellent and the team is highly skilled and reliable.

  • VCHS is a great contractor to work with! We first had them replace our rear deck and they built us a much bigger, more functional, and better deck than we had envisioned. When my mother became wheelchair bound later the same year we had VCHS back out and they built a custom front deck with wheelchair ramp and concrete sidewalk to allow her to come live with us. Just this year we brought VCHS back to replace our old chain link fence with a new 6 foot privacy fence. Overall they are a friendly and efficient team to work with who won’t let you down!

  • We just completed our third project with VCHS. The construction, materials and service is always top notch. We will call them again.
